The SF Bay Chapter of the Sierra Club is hosting two days of wilderness first aid classes, available to both CERT graduates and those who haven't completed CERT training.
Participants can choose to take either one or two days of the class.
The first class, held Saturday, March 24, teaches Basic Wilderness First Aid and is a practical, 8-hour course that prepares you to recognize and avoid wilderness hazards and do first aid outdoors with whatever equipment you have or can improvise.
The second class on Sunday, March 25, teaches Wilderness First Aid (in 8 more hours) and adds more advanced skills and role-playing scenarios.
Cost for the first day is $50 for Sierra Club members/$60 for non-members, while the second day will cost an additional $30/$40.
If you are not a current Sierra Club SF Bay Chapter outing leader (including leader candidates or trainees), register with Steve Donelan at donelan@speakeasy.net or send a check to P.O. Box 1227, Berkeley, CA 94701. Additionally, you can RSVP via the SF Bay Chapter's website. Indicate if you are attending the Sunday class. Be prepared to pay the fee in class.
Bring your lunch and things you would normally have with you on a wilderness trip that could be used to improvise splints, (e.g., poles, foam pads, thick jackets, etc.). Use your imagination.
